CNC milling: discover our specialisations
What is the right technology for creating the chassis for your electronic device? Experience tells us that there’s never just one, which is why we feel it’s important to provide you with the full potential of light metalwork and the most advanced metal milling systems which can be flexibly adapted to your needs.
Our technologies were initially created for machining aluminium used for front frames, but over time we have developed skills for shaping steel, stainless steel and plastic materials, from sample to medium series. But how exactly do milling operations work and why are they used so often?
CNC milling: advantages and areas of application
In order to provide you with consistently efficient results, we use precise and reliable machining in our elmec departments, such as milling with CNC technology. CNC machines allow milling operations to be performed with a high level of autonomy, easy repeatability and impeccable precision.
When using CNC milling machines, the operator enters key instructions into a computer, which it then transmits to the machine to provide the part geometry and machining instructions. So the milling machine will carry out the work itself, leaving the operator with the delicate task of monitoring the process and intervening in the event of faults or emergencies.
Thanks to its precision and the possibility of achieving excellent finishes, CNC milling lends itself to the production of aesthetic parts or parts requiring precise and robust mechanical couplings. Frames, unibody shells, dissipation surfaces in contact with electronics and re-machining of extruded sections are some examples of possible applications of this cutting-edge technology.
There are different types of CNC milling machines and in the elmec production system we have 10 CNC milling centres with 3, 4 and 5 vertical and horizontal axes, to meet the widest range of needs. Moreover, among the most efficient types of machining today is undoubtedly 5-axis continuous milling, which offers superior performance and enables incredibly precise and fast results.
The elmec evolution in metal milling
In order to be ready to grow with your needs, over time we have equipped ourselves with newer and newer machinery, such as a 3-axis milling machine with pallet changer suitable for medium production runs, which has helped to expand our production fleet and our scope for action: expanding our ability to give value to your electronic projects has always been one of our main goals.
In addition, our team of employees is frequently involved in refresher courses aimed at consolidating their technical skills: by regularly attending meetings on metal milling and the use of CNC machines, we are able to optimise our production process, making it more efficient, shared, lean and fluid.
