FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

1Why is mechanics applied to electronics different?
Not only does mechanics contain and support electronics. In fact, it also interacts with its functional characteristics: it can help it, complete it, make it effective or become an obstacle.
2How can good mechanics enhance my electronic project?
Our company was born from the intuitions of its founder: an electronic designer. Here are some of the factors we take into consideration when designing the mechanics for your applications:
  • Dissipating heat protects the electronics
  • Shielding from electromagnetic fields protects the electronics from interference
  • Discharging static electricity to the ground protects the electronics
  • Ensuring a correct degree of IP sealing protects the electronics from external agents
  • A clean mechanics with no processing residues facilitates assembly operations and preserves good functioning
  • A mechanics that guarantees accessibility to the product ensures simpler maintenance operations during its life cycle.
3Are light metal carpentry technologies suitable for the needs of my electronic project?
We use the main light carpentry technologies because they meet and do not clash with the rapid evolution of electronics. Here are some of the main reasons why you should rely on our technologies:
  • Applying changes to the project is easy and inexpensive
  • Very low initial investments and setup costs
  • The production of both samples and serial products is done with the same technologies. Your final product right away! You know what to expect and can test it from the first samples.
  • Excellent scalability; from 1 pc to 5000 pcs
  • Large series? With the support of our network, we guide you to the technologies that best suit your needs, managing the transition thereof.
4I have a project I would like to discuss with you; what technical documentation do I need?
Tell us your story, no matter how. Simple ideas on a sheet of paper or project files. In this case, you can send us 2D (.dwg - .dxf) and 3D (xxxxx) vector files.
5Which designs systems do you use?
Our technical team uses Solid Works to model all necessary technical documentation. We can manage files with the following formats:
  • .iges
  • .step
6Can you create the technical documentation yourself if we do not have it?
Absolutely. Our technical team can assist you by transforming your ideas into vector designs.
7Which technologies does elmec have?
Potrà trovare tutte le informazioni nella sezione lavorazioni del sito
8What are the maximum dimensions of the mechanical cases that elmec can offer?
We are able to develop cases for electronic devices up to an indicative maximum size of 50x50x50 cm. However, send us your requirements and our technical team will be able to advise you.
9Do you make customised extruded profiles?
Since the 1980s, we have been using international partners for the development and production of extruded aluminium profiles. elmec takes care of the design of the cross-section, material procurement and complete processing.
10What types of surface treatments do you manage? Do you use external suppliers?
elmec offers a wide range of surface finishes for mechanical parts through a network of well-established companies with specific vertical knowledge of their technology (You will find all the information in the section lavorazioni del sito)
11Can you integrate electronic parts on the mechanics?
Absolutely. We take care of assembling non-sensitive electronic parts (backplanes or secondary boards) and all the accessories a case may need (fans, buttons, light guides, etc.).
12Do you deal with product assembly?
Absolutely. We undertake manual assembly of various kinds to provide you with the product according to your needs.
13What are the typical lead times for developing a mechanical case?
Development time can range from 3 to 12 weeks depending on the complexity of the project and the degree of completeness of the requirements/technical documentation.
14What materials do you work with?
We are able to process different types of materials including:
  • aluminium alloys
  • steel
  • pre-treated (pre-galvanised) steel
  • stainless steel
  • copper
  • brass
  • plastics
15What thicknesses of laminates do you process?
We use thicknesses from 0.5 mm up to 10 mm. Are your laminates thicker? That is not a problem, contact us and tell us what your needs are.
16What are the typical batches of your production system?
Our light carpentry technologies are suitable for small \ medium quantities (from 5 pcs to 5000 pcs). Our service also includes product prototyping before validating production batches.
17Do you also carry out milling operations?
Absolutely. Our core production is focused on 3 types of processing:
  • Lightweight laminate carpentry
  • Bodies milled from solid
  • Processing of extruded profiles
18Do you also create graphics on the mechanics?
Absolutely. The creation of graphics on the mechanics is an integral part of our service. In addition to screen printing, we also manage pad printing, laser marking and digital printing to adapt to different needs.
19You manage material in C/work, can we send you parts to do specific machining or treatment?
Our mission is to assist the customer in all phases of product engineering and manufacturing. If necessary, we also evaluate the implementation of specific work on materials provided by the customer.
20Do you have any resellers in my area?
We want to take care of your demands in person, for this reason we do not have resellers and / or sales agents. Our consultants \ technicians are elmec personnel who will listen to your needs.
