INTELLIGENT VISION SYSTEM FOR READING LICENSE PLATES (ANPR)

FUNCTIONALITY

The function of this electronic device is to identify the license plate number of cars in transit, as well as their colour and model, in order to then process and store the data, then transmit them to the control structures.

PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS

The starting requirements for developing the mechanical case of this product were:

  • Creation of a compact and recognisable case in the world of vision
  • Easy access to the connectors for installation and maintenance
  • Achieve an IP 67 seal rating for outdoor use
  • Modularity of the case for potential expansion and scalability over time.
  • Heat dissipation via the case
  • Provide a complete product handling with the industrialisation of a proprietary design draft, up to the supply of the entire kit of mechanical components.

SOLUTIONS STUDIED AND APPLIED

DIFFERENTIATION IN THE WORLD OF VISION

The design draft we started from had the objective of standing out in a market with coded shapes and colours.
The choice was to use a compact case obtained from an extruded profile made ad-hoc with the application of plastic covers in the same blue colour as the brand. The white pad-printed logo is applied to the plastic supports to complete the design.

1ACCESSIBILITY
The case is designed to be easily accessible at all stages of its life: assembly, installation, maintenance.
Thanks to the extruded profile structure, the electronics are installed on predefined tracks without mechanical fasteners and screws. A 5000 series aluminium thin laminate alloy wall separates the part of the connectors accessible to the installer from the internal electronics.
1PROTECTION AGAINST EXTERNAL AGENTS
The application required IP67 degree of insulation to be achieved in order to protect against dust and liquids entering.
To ensure the sealing, it was necessary to use special cable glands for the inlet and outlet of the cables with integrated pre-moulded sealing rings in the support base that act as O-rings.
The two heads of the extruded profile case involves the application of EPDM gaskets between the two covers and the mechanical extruded profile.
The front panel in 6000 series aluminium with black anodising treatment involves the use of an EDPM gasket, which is housed in a groove along the perimeter, made by milling, to ensure the necessary seal.
1MODULARITY
The choice to use the extruded profile guarantees scalability over time without changing the fundamental components of the project. The length of the profile cut just needs to be varied in order to ensure the housing of additional boards.
1HEAT DISSIPATION
Heat dissipation is guaranteed solely by the geometry of the finned aluminium metal structure without resorting to added fans or heat sinks.
1COMPLETE PRODUCT SUPPLY
The product is supplied complete with all components assembled, with a mixture of technologies and materials in order to ensure the customer only deals with the electronic part of the device and the test phase.

MATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGIES USED

This system is composed of 8 different materials (5000 series and 6000 series aluminium, stainless steel, PBT polyester, EPDM and neoprene gaskets, nylon, borosilicate glass, silicone)
The result was achieved using 12 different technologies: extrusion, profile cutting, deburring, milling, laser cutting, bending, mechanical satin finishing, turning, anodising surface treatments, pad printing, glass bonding with silicones and final assembly.
Five of these technologies have been integrated into the finished product, drawing on our trusted network (extrusion, turning, pad printing, anodising treatments, glass application).
